The old outer port, known as the ‘Buitenhaven’, is managed by the municipality of Hoorn and offers 35 berths, mostly for charter ships and cruise ships. The harbour is protected by a dike that closes the water off Markermeer and is accessible via the ‘Grote Gat’, which is Dutch for ‘Big Hole’. You will find this passage at the lighthouse.
